The VSR has better hop up but the APS will shoot a straighter trajectory. The APS will rely on power to get range but the VSR will get the same range with out as much power (due to the hop up). I'd go with the VSR series simply because more parts are continuelly being created and it's cheaper to upgrade (whereas the APS series is pretty much done in terms of new aftermarket parts).

presonally , having never tried an APS , i love my vsr (non gay way mr. chase42) , in terms of appearance and weight , aswell as accuracy (being that it is stock , but not for long!) so i would go for a VSR mainly because it is upgradeable , and cheaper , and durable. so , yes i would recommend this , but i have yet to shoot an APS , so i cannot be sure which i think is better.

VSR = less needed upgrades for same distance/power because of Hop unit.
