G&P SR-15 Gas Block Pins Issue

Nov 14, 2005 5:56am
Well guys, I finally bought the damn RAS kit and I've been getting it scratch lately since I'm not really careful and all. The only problem now is trying to fit the two damn pins into the gas block. Here is the thing, I moved the gas block a little further up in order for the barrel to be attach to the receiver from the top. Doing that, I moved the gas block away from the groove on the barrel therefore, I cannot add the two pins for the bottom. Anyone had this problem or do you guys just say screw it, I don't need it.

Does G&P make a SR one five conversion kit? Or is it the midlegnth RAS? Im just trying to find pictures to help you out. Ive got the GB-Tech One Five conversion and there are two little screws in the bottom of the gas block that thread into the barrel. Are there actual pins like the regular M4 front sight? I would suggest drilling new holes if they dont line up. But then the RAS was designed to go on a certain way.

Yeah they do, it is known as the M4 Free Floating RAS. There is a thread on the barrel that i can just slide the pin in but the only problem is that barrel that attaches on to the receiver that eliminates the barrel wobble cannot reach the receiver.

It sounds to me that you are installing something in the wrong order. Your talking about the attachement in the rear? Not the gas block in the front? My kit works like: a piece thread on the barrel threads to the reciever, there are two pins that hold that rail that fit into that piece, then the delta ring screws it all together. To install mine, you have to screw in the delta ring before the RAS will reach the pins that hold it. In other words the delta ring stops the rail from sliding back enough to engage the reciver unless it is screwed in a little before its lined up. That help?

I think I'm confusing you, I'm actually talking about the gas block which is the front. There is a line on the barrel if I'm not mistaken if it is suppose to help the two pins (gas block) slide on.

I think I get it. The short barrel section screws into the main section. The gas block locks onto the short section with pins that fit into the two grooves on the short section. The gas block is moved up forward more and does not line up with the groves. Yes?

You finally got it lol. I see, I don't really have a lathe, maybe at school but I doubt I'll able to use it. Is it really necessary to use those pins? or is there another alternate way?

I see, that really bites. Well the thing is, the big block cannot slide either way. I dont know if your gas black has it but under the gas block, there is a small screw that holds the gas block (just notice) to keep it in place. I stilll wonder what the damn two pins serves what purpose.

Well its already secure which is good. Also I finally know what the heck that silver thing is, Its called a mock gas tube which is fake of course. I couldn't fit the pins in so I just took the gas tube out or pulled it out from the receiver and stick the pins in and it was hell of a hassle. I ended up sawing off the pins that didnt go all the way in and putty, sanded, and re-painted the gas block. Oh well. Thanks again Rich!
