high caliber, old weapons seem to be the thumbs up trend.

I carried a modified M14 in '03 I liked having it A LOT so did every one else. It was a huge asset the M14 brought it at any range. I prefered my side arm when going indoors just becuase the M14 is huge. and yes .45 over 9mm every day. (down with the M9) I dont like the open slide but to each his own. We didnt have a huge problem with the M4s and we had very few 249's we were using M-60E3's. the problem with the 5.56mm round at very close range is its enourmous speed and lack of mass. (Shoot a soda can with 22 from 25 feet. then shoot it with a airsoft gun) the 22 wont knock it down but the airsoft gun will. it is the energy transfer or lack there of. at close range a 7.62mm round has alot more kick. if you pull the 5.56mm round to about 150-200 yards its a kill with chest shot. it loses enough speed at that range so that it can start to yaw after impact cuasing the fluid in your bodey to go into motion this makes a huge mess. If you have the time to clean your gun a lot the M4 is great. I used a M4 and M16/203 in a jungle enviorment and it worked great. You got to remember though Im a weapons specialist so I always clean my Sh1t and fix it right a way so my experiance is a little scewed.

so long as whatever they change to is a gas piston setup instead of the gas tube.

Good articale, not supprised that the M-16 is not doing so well in the desert. 5.56 rounds are not the best against a drugged up jihadest.

With advances in technology and machining equipment (CNC). Gun companies have increased their milling tolerances. Thus an increase in accuracy is achived, however when foriegn material such as sand and dirt enters the chamber or bolt areas-promblems will persist. Dry lubercants or lightly oiled weapons have helped and solved some of the problems with fequent jamming.

Hey neo, next time you see me and my dad, ask him anything about the M14. You'll get great stories! ask the guiys that were at AEX when i test fired the G&G M14. lol
Some say-That it's impossible for him to wear socks, and he can open a beer bottle with his testes.

You know, when I kept hearing from vietnam vets about the m16s in the war, most of them hated that rifle. I even got one guy tell me that the M14 was better than 'this s***'(m16)
Look, I'm a politician, which means I lie, and I'm a cheat.
Personally I'm a big fan of the 7.62x51NATO round. It's great, but when it comes down to it, I'd think I'd feel more comfortable knowing that I can miss a few shots, get a kill and have plenty left, than have to make sure each shot counted or I'd run out of ammo.
