I know quite a few people that own them and they love them. Actually one of my buddies who only plays sniper.. has about 5 sniper rifles and was telling me a little while ago that he wanted to sell a few..

Only issue you're going to run into with a gas system is temperature. When it starts going below 60 degrees your performance drops horribly and it becomes VERY inconsistent and uses a lot more gas per shot. That's why you see those who are serious about true expert marksman positions use bolt action sniper weapon systems for it's reliability and symplicity. Guns like the APS2 and VSR 10 have a lot of upgrades for them INCLUDING gas kits. So you can buy the APS2 and get upgrade springs and trigger sears and all and purchase the gas bolt system for summer. That way you have an all around reliable good gun for any situation. Not to mention that the APS2 has easier to get custom stocks and such for it as well. I have shot a Tanaka kar98 in the summer and it rocked. In winter it shot like an lpeg and that's with my attempts to warm the damn mag up before shooting.

ok for everyone who says that gas rifles perform horribly in cold weather is because they do not realize, it is not the gun taht holds the gas, it is the magazine. my friend plays in the snow and winter areas with his tanaka m40a1 (gas) and he was using it this weekend as a matter of fact. All you have to do is buy a couple hand warmers from say...target, keep the mag in a wool sock with a couple of those thrown in, and just keep it there till your ready, he was nailing people at 65 yards with his M40A1 in 48 degree weather. its all about how you take care of the mag. on the m700 tho, quite possibly one of the best gas rifles out there.
