WD-40 better than silicon lube
Have fun buying new buckings when the WD-40 keeps eating them.

A 7th grader's science fair project offers no proof that WD40 is better :P
DO NOT USE WD-40 FOR YOUR AIRSOFT GUNS

WD 40 eats up plastic, and you are going to put it on something with plastic parts... not a good idea
no no no, of course, I would never do that  also, dont use petroleum products to lube your gun. (some real steel lube's have them in there, check the label)

petroleum DISTILATES are bad for plastic. almost all grease has petroleum in it. unfortunately, almost all oils have petroleum distilates in them. it's just a matter of degree in which they start to break down softer materials like plastic. i have been using a spray food grade silicon oil on my airsoft weapons for years. i use it for lubrication and to clean dirt off of greased parts. it's not a volitile concentration of distilates in the oil and it doesn't eat the plastic away.
Any form of silicone is bad for cylinders/pistons.

silicon is made from extremely fine sand that contains high ammounts of SILICA. Small moving parts+extremely fine sand=bad things.

my 2 cents, the marui manual says to fire the equivalent of 5 magazines before the accuracy returns. like 300 rounds. that way, it will clear the excess silicone. maybe the kid didn't real the instructions.

First of all, I want to commend the original poster for his research. It was very thought provoking.
