MREs are only good when you are stuck in the middle of no-where, have zero pogey bait left, and is the last resort when you are starving.

MREs arent that bad, I had a few pasta ones, a beef one and a vegi one. I acually kinda like them. Of course there is better food in the world but if you were in a combat situation can you ask for better?

Okay my dad is in the military, and the last Miles training exercise they had i was able to somewhat participate in. Therefore i had to outfit myself in battle dress and tromp around with my dad sleep in the humvee/tent and yes eat MREs.

SWATKing, you actually posted something worthwhile!!  MRE's aren't too bad, the new ones anyway. The old ones, they were pretty bad. When I came back from Desert Storm I had a eating disorder, well a digestive disorder actually, I still have it, anyway, I went over to the base hospital for some tests and the doc says "Sgt. Shmucutelli, you need to work on your diet." I look at the doc and "Sir, I've been eating MRE's for every meal for the past six months practically, tell ME I have to work on my diet!" My last deployment we lived on cup o noodle, gatorade, water, jerky, trail mix and the various power bars. I rarely bring MRE's. Spartan, if you read this, I'll try to bring some out to the training day, not the type you guys had at the drill.

Gotta remember Joe, I was in a "gun-truck" most of my time so we loaded up by the cases. They had a/c plugs for the laptops to send out sitreps and recieve updated intel and such nonsense so we could also plug in one of those electric coffee pots to heat up water (and real coffee, sometimes starbucks too) for the cup o noodles. Not to mention the "goodies" that my family and the VFW kept sending me.

No one has mentioned ham slice! Was it so long ago that it is no longer a MRE option? I rember when I was in that we did everything possable to avoid ham slice and if you did wind up with it you ate EVERY thing but the ham. The meat ( I use the term lossly) was worse grade than spam and the "juice" that was packed with it was havey enough to lube the tracks on the Bradlies. Yet it was from MRE's that I have developed my love for fruit cake. Yes I like to eat fruit cake. Drive my wife crazy every Holiday. But I tell you of all the desserts in the MRE of the time that was one of the best.

I can get MREs from the commissary on base at Travis, I'm sure any of us Active Duty guys can...they're like 4 bucks if not cheaper.
