Peak charging

Jan 27, 2004 4:42am
bad or good? I peak charged my gun and it was dead after a couple of rounds, not mags. So I assume it is not good or I am doing something terribly wrong? Does SacAir have classes for the challenged?

your prob discharging the battery if its dieing after a few rounds... :?:

What kind of charger?

It is a IntelliPeak Pulse Charger. I am trying the slow charge this time and see if that makes a difference?

One more thing, if I have to leave the house and the battery is still charging, can I stop it and then restart it when I get home? I have had this 9.6 1700 battery charging at 2.0 for around 5 hours and it still is not done.

I think it should have been done by now....

It is not even warm. Maybe it is the battery? I charged 2 others and they are fine.

I just tested it and fired like a wild banshee. Seems O.K.

Battery was dead after 100 rounds. What's up with that?
Jan 28, 2004 4:03am
dude, you must be charging you battery hellla slow... what amprage is the charger set to charge at? If you can adjust it it should be at about 2 for nimah batts and 3.5-5 for nicads

Well, He's got an auto peak charger. So charged fast or slow, when it reaches it reaches peak charge it's done. Maybe the charger is false peaking. What size spring is in the gun? Maybe it's sucking the life out of those mini batts. real fast. What type of batts are you using? Some you found real cheap, or good ones using Sanyo cells?

I bought this charger http://www.airsplat.com/P_389.htm and the 9.6 1700 is from www.airsoftextreme.com, it is the nun chuck type. The gun is the AE MAX Carbine and the batttery came with the gun. It is set at 2 amps.

Oops, one more thing. Will Fortress Hobby be able to tell me if the battery or charger are bad?

Charging at 2.0 amps should have slower ROF and a longer run time. I charge mine @ 4.5 and its fine. Lasts all day and more with my cut m100. Try charging it at a higher rate and try peaking it again after it says that its done, im sure that it could be a false peak. But if none of that works then it could be your batteries. If you have a really stiff spring in your gun that can cut battery life drastically.

Are you sure about the slower charge the slower ROF? Im doubting that... Generally, the slower you charge a battery the better voltage your battery will get. Ive actually seen these results with my charger (shows volts and all sorts of cool stuff) Its better to charge a battery slow because it fills is to a higher capacity and will give a battery a higher voltage.

Pretty damn sure about it. Ask mr.ray, he told me.

Well let's see here. Look at it this way. Bottle = battery, Water = electricity. Let's say you have a two 5 gallon water bottles. One bottle is being filled with your garden hose, and the other bottle is being filled with a fire hose (amp rate). When they are both filled to the rim, you immediatley seal the two bottles (peak). The bottle which was filled with the fire hose should have more air bubbles in it compared to the bottle which was filled with the garden hose. Therefore, the bottle filled with the garden hose will have more water in it (Mah(capacity)). Now, punch a whole in each bottle. Which bottle do you think will gush all of it's water first?? That's right, the bottle filled with the fire hose cause of all the extra pressure (discharge rate), and the bottle filled with the garden hose will lose it's water at a slower more consistant rate. Make any sence?? I have several chargers that will display all this info., like total charge time, Mah, peak, avg. discharge rate, and SO much more.

Interesting.....

Well if you're running a 600 mah battery with an M100 spring, you won't notice anything in the ROF. The battery just doesn't have enough umph to make a difference.

It's the charger. I am charging another (new) battery and the thing is getting hot. This charger is jacked up and not reading correctly. I am sorry but I have had no good experience with airsplat products.

Just curious but are you charging NICD or NIMH batts? And is the charger capable of peak charging both types? Or are you peak charging the batts at all? If you are peak charging, you have to peak NICD & NIMH differently unless the charger has circuitry for both. And NIMH batts do get pretty warm when fully charged. Or are you talking about the charger getting hot, nevermind...

I finally think I figured it out. I bought a new charger and i think I had false charging going on. After I charged the batteries, I hit recharge again and got way more life out of them. It was false peaking. Now who do I join?
