Go with XP Pro/Home, 98SE is a Piece of shit. Also what are your specs... you want at least a 1.0ghz with 256mb of ram with XP i would say would be decent. You play games so your video card must be ok ( 64mb or better with dx7+).

Sceen lag could be caused by many things Erin. Video card is the first thing to check/replace. 128MB card would be fine, you can find them for around 60-80 bucks, also your Memory could be lagging your system. If you can afford it, run atleast a GByte. You might not have enough of a combination of things in order to play high res/ high graphic games. Every one I know that games is using XP Pro....lets see, thats around 300 hardcore Gamers and SP2 is fine to run.

Thing that makes me think it's my oS is that most of the games I get lag on my system exceeds the Reccomended requirement or atleast come reasonably close. HL2 is still out of my reach... But DF:BHD and Joint Operations should run fine. And I still get times of choppy framerates.
yeah i think xp pro is what yuou need. i run bd2 and hf2 on my pc and i only have 512 ram, and my processor is slower than yours, so you should be good. BUt u should go to atleast 128 raideon or geforce card. I recomend 256 but for money issues 128 will be good.
You have a better system than me, actually I run a better video card but HL2 worked fine on my old GeForece3 ti 200 64mb. Right now I run Windows XP Pro w sp2.
