Is it ok to...

Feb 1, 2004 9:33pm
I was wondering if it is okay to take off the dust cover on my M4, It looks to me that it doesn't do much of anything. and I am talking about the cover that comes back when you pull the charging handle that covers up the hop. It is not the one attached to the body.

Well, It's a dust cover around the house. But if you go to play in any games it becomes a Dirt cover. I'd say leave it on.

thing is I dont want to hold on to the damn charging handle while trying to adjust the hop, and anyways I baby my guns so I doubt strongly that any dirt will get in the hop. (and if it does... $24.99 new systema hop unit  )

You dont really adjust your hop that much on an m4. But if you really want to you can. I did it for a while then put it back on.

God, have some of us become THAT lazy?
Look, I'm a politician, which means I lie, and I'm a cheat.

think of how much work you have to do pulling back the charging handle to adjust your hopup... now think of how much work you have to do to ear 24.99...... big difference, worth pulling the damn charging handle back. not too hard...

I am always going to keep the bodies dust cover on so I realy dont need to have the other dust cover on. (little compressed air to the gun at end of day gets rid of dust)

Not really important to have the fake bolt in there. Alot of people who have metal bodies don't do the extra work to put it back on. Personaly, I think it's better to keep dust away from inside the cylinder rather than the hop unit. I doubt your problem will be less than $24.99.

I dont think dirt can get into my cylinder can it? I have a Progear M160 reinforced gearbox with a tightbore cylinder, (it has no hole on the side of it so dirt cant get in)

I have to agree with pb, it's really quite insane that you cannot hold back the charging handle for a couple of seconds while you adjust your hop up. Besides, how often does it really need to be adjusted? I think your just asking for much more trouble than it's worth. Just my opinion though.
