what would you have done if you could do what ever u want.
Dec 26, 2005 5:42am
wow... thats realy funny. "hey lets throw rocks at the marines they wont do anything!!"
Dec 26, 2005 5:47am
It would depend on what kind of day I was having. If I had lost a friend earlier that day,I would stop the Hummer and walk up to one of the kids and hit him in the face with stock on my m16. And then if they continued to throw rock I would start shooting, but thats why Soldiers cant do what ever they want.

i sent this 2 my older brother Kenny who is a marine now..but hes on leave right now. he told me that when he was in iraq they ready did do that... and that they did throw a grenade eventually, when that happened they turned right around and lit the whole median of the road up with the 20mm on the Bradley that he was riding in.

Pretty sure WP would be considered "force."
Dec 26, 2005 8:36am
I'd throw them some McDonalds happy meals. Get the f*ckers addicted while they're young... soon: total American influence over Iraq. Do they want fries with their serving of Democracy?

Well first of all these dudes are transportation, which means they are not agressive to say the least! Second of all they are not very creative,as the current R.O.E. does not say anything about throwing frozen juice boxes at cars or civilians(not that we do that) that are not candidates for warning shots or deadly force.Thats my oponion, but what do i know i only have only been here for a year.We have a pretty bad sector, but even the boldest of kids knows if he spits throws the bird or throws rocks its game on.

what i dont get is why his 1SG makes them go through there all the time ( IED'S)

First they're army ... 2nd thats a transport truck, not a bradley or a hummer, you can tell by the dashboard. That guy is only bitching because he didnt make it to Infantry and he's a truck grunt...a "In the rear with the gear" guy as we call them. They are all bitter and talk a lot tougher then they are, when it comes down to it ... that guy wouldnt pull the trigger on a kid with a rock in his hand. ROE wont allow it and for good reason, we're suppose to be liberating and creating info structure, not disciplining children. They drive through there because thats their job transporting goods, the passenger is arrogant, rather then ready his weapon and stay vigillant he becomes passive and complacent, and thats when the kids throwing rocks will be the diversion for the roadside ambush...Ive seen it. However on the same token realize the total effects of a war on a nation and its people, it will be hard for some to understand that until they see it,those of you who have been there will understand. These kids are scared because prior grunts came through and screamed at them, or disregarded their LOAC and had their way in these childrens villages schools and homes. If you ever get the chance to make it over to the suck, you'll find 70-80% of the indigineous personel are US supporters, and run to the trucks with open hands. Ive seen packs of villagers chanting George Bush just to try to make us realize they were with us. So many times these people are the ones who provide the best intel. So you ask what I would have done, I'd have ratf*cked my MRE and taken anything that wasnt nasty (powdered drink) charms candy's, m&M's whatever, and handed it out the window to the kids, these same kids will remember you, and when you come through the next day they may be the ones to point out that IED a few yards down range that they saw someone plant in the night or earlier that morning

welcome to military life little man, a lot of ish doesnt make sense.
Dec 27, 2005 12:31am
Kermit is absolutley right, those kids(rock throwers) are few and far between. They(the good kids) can get annoying but you have to remember that they dont have *poop* to thier name. We have given out more candy and benie babys sent from churches state side then i can remember. About the route thing its not up to 1sg to plan what route they take.It is planned by the convoy escort cmdr. It is usually the safest route from point A to B. Hower if you dont work in that area you dont know how safe or not safe it is.Some battle space is heavily patroled and some isnt.Thier are some units that are very proactive, and some units that file false patrol reports and never leave the wire. So if your not out there doing your job you are just screwing over the next guy to come rolling through your sector!!

a friend of mine's dad was talking to a guy while riding the train who had just come back from iraq about people throwing rocks while they were on foot patrol. One of the guys in his unit used to pitch in college and would load up his pack with some rocks and return the favor
Dec 27, 2005 8:06am
initial without thinking about it i would have said something very similiar to everyone else like fire some warning shots and then open fire and perhaps it would be out of ignorance. But kermit makes one hell of a point there i gotta say that was said really well.
