alright, I've got a stock KWA G17 in need of upgrades. what do you recommend as far as hi-flow valves, upgraded recoil springs, tightbore barrels, etc.? also, are there any particular brands I should stay away from / steer towards? you help is appreciated.

Go with the Hurricane full upgrade kit (hammer and recoil springs, and hi flow valve).
really? i never got a good impression from the hurricane parts. not sure why, but thats just my gut. never had any experience with them though.

Unless there is some specific area of the pistol's performance you are not happy with, I don't recommend any upgrades for a KWA G17, except for maybe a metal mag catch.
i think i'll go with a mag catch, G&P set (TMed slide, outer barrel, steel recoil rod and new recoil spring), and a 6.04 tightbore.
