Kid with springer shot by SWAT - Airsoft under question
Heres the story. A 15 year old kid brings his Baretta springer to his middle school, and ends up getting shot by SWAT (not dead, but messed up). Authorities are now questioning whether airsoft should be legal (to an extent). Thanks to a kid who was stupid enough to bring a real looking gun to school, we might lose our game.

that kid is an idiot, although i dont think they will ban airsoft, the worst they will do is make it manidtory for orange tips.
man, i read the article and it said nothing about "airsoft". the weapon was identified as a pellet gun, which in my mind, means a .177. nor did the article go into any detail about a possible out law of airsoft. Dent Cry Wolf.
on the news just 5 minutes ago, it said airpowered, which will somehow convert to airsoft for most idiots(99.9% of the population), and nobody reads anymore.

yeah they called it a pellet gun, and most pellet guns, other hen the co2 ones are air powered(but those are the rifles come to think of it) but yeah if they do ban airsoft, i will go with chris and shoot him myself. becuase this is our hobby, the hobby we spend over $1,000 at least a year into. its our dream to have this, our dream to have that. And this kid will probably ruin it for everyone.
i dont think it matters that it was airsoft or not. the point is it looked real. an m9 replica, regardless of being airpowered, can still get real-looking guns banned. (like airsoft)
This types of things dont only affect airsoft you now. Pellet guns or bb guns could be banned as well. And it doesnt really affect me because people up here in maryland arent as fucked up and stupid. Just givin input

man if something like this happens again I hope to be in the class becuase I could easily distinguish an air pistol from real and would knock the kid out.
This kid was supposedly suicidal, I doubt the government would go as far as banning airsoft/toy/pellet guns because of this. What's gonna be contested over is who's to blame. There will be more talks about the school system, the law enforcement, the parents, violent video games, music and movies.

Listen, Airsoft is a fast growing popular sport all over the world. I dont really think one kid is gonna mess this up for us...orange tips are already mandatory, we play far enough out of the view of authorities that I think we will be fine.

I think it might be prudent to set up minimum ages for USAGE of airsoft and not just purchase. If a young child should be found with an airsoft or bb gun, they should be detained and the parents fined or punished in some fashion. Set the age for about 16. Those of you who are younger, I understand it's not fair, but so as long as you don't do anything as stupid as this kid you should live long enough to hit 16 to use it. Just think of it as saving up for a future investment.
Parents are the ones we need to crack down on

You're missing the point isn't whether it was a pellet gun or an airsoft gun or a squirt gun. It is the fact that it looks exactly the same as the real thing. Had he discharged it the police would've immediately known it wasn't a threat and would've disarmed him with pepper spray. But he didn't and the police felt that they had to do what they did.
