Your opinion please.

I have to write a paper about technology for my ENGWR101 class. My question is in your opinion which rifle in the US arsenal is the most technologically advanced. Or perhaps any weapon platform besides a rifle. Any ideas will help thanks.
If you give to a charity please think of giving to one of these two charities. The Naval Special Warfare Foundation or Navy SEAL Warrior Fund.

I have always been impressed with the Phalanx CIWS system for navy ships.
I have always acted in self defense, occasionally pre-emptive self defense.

I would recommend a paper on the m14 or the ak47, old rifles still in service today, with many varients and options

When i comes to guns technologically advanced is not always better. The AK 47 from technological side is a very poor gun, but yet its one of the best guns ever made. The m14 is a very simple gun that has been in service for 50yrs. The M16/AR is a very technological gun but since its parts are so precise it does not fire if a little bit of sand enters inside. But the AK will fire even if the bolt is rusted closed.

fn2000, isn't that the sc20k from splinter cell? that could be used, since he is supposed to be using the most technologically advanced weapons...

browning .50 cal probably falls under the catagory of guns that have been in service for along time.

[quote="Faint"]True but thats not what i meant, THE AK and the M14 have gone threw modernization and thats what I was trying to get at you now have many versions available in multiple calibers.

maybe you could try writing on the advancement in cunstruction of weapons and how they're transferring from metal receivers and wooden stocks to synthetic materials, like the G-36 rifle and Glock pistols.

I think that all of the suggestions I have read here are good ones. My I suggest another angle. From a military history point of view feel there are several angels you could take. First is examine the American Civil War. Several advancements in fire arms took place. The first repeating rifle was introduced. Ofcourse this was the lever action rifles. But most importantly all of these new sexy automatic assault weapons originated from one Doctor Gatling. Thus the Gatling gun was invented and first used in the Civil War. So why is this interesting? They did all of these very noticable advancements in weapons platforms with out the aide of the computer. Think about that a technology that is still basically in use today, some one mention specter gun ships, was developed by a doctor with just good ole' American know how.

i agree with the post right above me. its not what has come out recently that important, but the technolgical starting point that has brought our arms to the point at which they are at right now. focus on the MAJOR developments that brought about a massive tide of change.
