Found this in a Discovery magazine the other day. I thought it was pretty interesting because, well, I'm somewhat (not extremely) red-green colorblind.

hmmmm but from some reason the U.S. army wants its infantryman to not be color blind.

Infantrymen can be colorblind, but if you're colorblind your options are quickly narrowed down -- nobody wants a helicopter pilot that doesn't know which button is green and which button is red! (although that's a very extreme form of red-green colorblindness)

This makes a lot of sense. I'm colorblind and I have a much easier time picking out camoflague. Guess I'm lucky depending on how you look at it.

I also have red/green color deficiency... wrecked my dreams of being a helo pilot for the army when i found out sophmore year....

maybe things have changed in the last three years but the army would not let you in the Infantry if you couldn't tell the difrennce between red and green.

I am colorblind and have always been the best hunter in my family cause I can see just about anything it is nice to finally get some recognition verus people constantly asking "hey what color is this?"

aha! and darwins theory of evolution continues. the people with the green/red color blindness will live on the battlefield, and pass on their genes.

When I enlisted into the DEP Program and chose my job, I was told no color blindness for 0300 MOS's, but there are people in that are color blind - I know of two personally.

If you look at it from the enemy perspective, I don't think color mattered when the rifle barrels are pointed your way. Just a thought. :)
