Does the system see the ip and the actual "name" or are there some other things like cookies that tell the system who we are?

Well the forums/login will ban an account. Also the main system bans by IP + Cookie (incase they have dynamic ip's). The cookie can be bypassed but getting passed the forum ban is weird, maybe its not on right.
