Apr 2, 2006 5:54am
I have been trying to decide weather I should get a M14 or a M16 and i thought of something.Arent the m14 and m16 basically the same gun just a different body? If this is true im going to have a very hard time deciding. lol. What are your thoughts on this?

Then can you please explain to me how they are different? cuz im having a hard time figuring it out myself. And ye Eltigre im most likely going to get an m14, but i heard that they are really herd to work on, so labor would end up costing me more. oh and dont they both have the same length inner barrel?

The m16 as a bit longer inner barrel. 509mm as opposed to m14's 500mm inner barrel. M14 has a much better hopup unit and is far more accurate out of the box then the m16. The v.7 gearbox is a far more effecient design in terms of performance. v.2 gearbox is far easier to disassemble. With all else being equal internally an m14 will be far more accurate and probably out range an m16 at the same fps. The m14 can only handle up to a 8.4v large battery while the m16 can handle much higher. There are far more accessories available for the m16 then the m14. The m14 is a far superior platform to use as a dmr then the m16 in terms of both accuracy and consistency. Upgrade parts for the m14 are scarce in the US so you'll have to order most of it from overseas. Shouldering an m14 is far different then an m16. The m14 is also heavier then the m16, but I could be wrong on that one.

wow thanks a bunch for all that helpful info. well it would probably be the m16 for me then because im more of a quick moving person and more aggressive play. and im guessing the m14 is built more towards long range slower paced play. im still not 100% sure though. which m14 would you recommend? the tm or the g&g?

I would definitely get the Tokyo Marui version of the M14 over the G&G version.
Apr 2, 2006 6:32am
ummmm....no the m14 has 500mm exactly. The m16 has a 509mm barrel. If tm wanted to save money they would've also put the hopup clip on the inner barrel in the same spot and reused the m16 inner barrel. Why do I know this? Because I had an unuseable m16 tightbore thinking it would work in the m14 but found out it couldn't because of where the hopup clip goes. And laying them down next to each other the m16 inner barrel was longer. An m14 maybe able to hold a 9.6v 4/5A but it will not hold a 9.6v Sub-C but the m16 can.

ras rails look better on shorter barrelled m14's then long ones IMO. Plus with the added weight of the rails it keeps it balanced a bit more with the shorter rail.

m14 for the win. m16's are kind of boring.
