Would you recommend this gun?
Spring Dragonov SVD from Airsoft Extreme for $150. This is my first real airsoft gun but I have used others like it. The guy at the store was saying its a pretty good gun and said it shoots 400-500 fps. Internal parts are metal but i think that the stock was plastic. This is only for the gun with absolutely no upgrades. Thoughts?

Aex only sells products they recommend, so it should be solid. If anything you have them around to be local enough to get it fixed or returned. Read the game rules to see if you qualify for the class that you are thinking.
There is one major upgrade for the SVD, converting it from a spring, to a C02 system. It uses a standard CO2 cartirage, however it does put the FPS into the 500-530 neighborhood, which may or may not be legal depending on the field ( with .2s of coarse) . Also, it removes the issue of it being tough to cock, making it easy enough to be ready to fire again with a easy finger pull, compaired to removing the rifle from the shoulder, using your entire hand and upper arm strenght to cock the gun again.

actually I was there....Sat morning 11:15 am ish....
Seek the Narrow Gate, for the path is broad and the gate is wide that leads to destruction.
If you could regulate the gas to shoot consistently the CO2 conversion would be pretty awesome. Or would it even need to be regulated? Aren't the cartridges pretty consistent?

6 games?! I guess I'll borrow a friends gun for those first 6... Spraying random bullets hoping to hit my target isn't my style. I like being accurate. Also I've started working on a homemade ghille suit that I was planning to use as a sniper I don't want all my work to go to waste

seems like everyone wants a sniper to begin with, even me i admit. I bought one...sold it a month later. Expect to pay $600+ for a "good" sniper rifle.

I too went through my sniper rifle phase, now I just use my M16 SPR on semi and have a blast. If they don't call the hit I can then switch to full auto and give them a quick lesson.
I have always acted in self defense, occasionally pre-emptive self defense.
The answer to the first question:
If you think you'll be more accurate with a sniper rifle.... You're wrong. Unless your Snoopy, aor HunterX, that guy can shoot..
[quote="Amateur Ninja"]obviously you dont know him.
I've given i some thought and I've decided against the SVD mainly because of what michaeld said. I think I'm going to get a G3 and convert it to a sniper. I love the G3 almost as much as the Dragonov but the G3 is full auto and WAY more customizeable

Would I be allowed to come out for my first time with a standard, scoped G3? Or does that count as a sniper?

Yes, if it's stock.
Everytime someone puts a RIS on an AK, God kills a kitten.
You could downgrade the rifle to 400 or less and use it the same way as an AEG for 6 games, then swap the spring out after.
