Ya know fellas, I'm really getting tired of the statement "they're willing to do the work that Americans will not do". That has to be one of the most inaccurate statements that I've ever heard. There are plenty of Americans that are willing to pick fruit, wash cars, work fast food, clean toilets or whatever it takes to get their families (let alone themselves) fed and cared for. The simple fact (not my opinion) is that employers take advantage of using illegal migrant workers to their advantage. I've worked in the construction industry, off and on for the last 20 years. I've sen the migrant worker population explode within that time. Construction work used to be one of the good income type of jobs, where a skilled worker can make an above average living. Above average meaning, able to buy a house in 2 to 5 years and be able to put their kids in college in 10 years. Now, they make below the average. An average living would be $18.00 an hour (in this area). There are workers that have worked for their company no less than 5 years only pulling in $12 bucks an hour. These are the guys that I've seen show total dedication and promise. Some of them were American and some migrant. Most employers know that they are hiring illegals and they use that to their advantage. "What? You want a raise? Hmm? let me call Imigration and make sure you're legal to be here." That is how I've seen employers treat those situations, wether it be legal or not. You can point the blame at crooked employers, our country's politics and a little bit on migrant workers that are here by illegal means. Americans are willing to do the work. I know plenty of construction workers that just want to put their kids through college so that their kids won't have to struggle as they do for them. I'm one of them.
