So there I was getting out of my truck with my brand new 9.6v 3600mah NiMH battery in my safeway plastic bag. Well the bag rips and the battery drops out into a puddle. Out of instinct I bent over to pick it up. When I grab it I noticed it was warm and when I looked at it I saw an orange flame coming out of the end. My friend who is an electrician rips it from me and throws it to the ground. as flames start to come out of the battery. After a few minutes the flames stop but it is still really hot.
