SOOOO Type-96 or SVD

Apr 12, 2006 3:10pm
Ok so i went to AEX and test fired the SVD and held (but not test fired) the Type-96. just wanted to get your guys input on which gun...

SVD, one of the most widely used rifles in the world and hardly any on the airsoft field yet. from a performance standpoint, the SVD wins too. the SVD just rocks box hard core.
Apr 12, 2006 3:19pm
Yeah thats what i was thinkin too but i know the type-96 has really good upgradibility

i like them both. john is right about the SVD, pretty much no one has it on the field...ive shot one before, and wow, its amazing(the king arms one i think). but, i have a type 96, and i love it. shoots far, easy to cock, but 3 small things i have found...

if you're trying to go for a sniper platform with using aeg parts, go with the SVD. If you want to go with a bolt action type, go with the APS-2 OR/SV/EX, not the type-96. There are many more upgrade possibilities with the normal APS-2. If you want to see a really nice APS-2 Ronnie has mine at AEX right now, very upgraded and shoots in the ballpark of 550fps to 750fps if wanted that high. BTW this is from a CO2 conversion. You can however still keep it at a lower fps by keeping it a spring gun and putting a lower velocity spring in.

I like both guns... But I have to go with the L96 cause I own one... I don't know about Swat's problems but mine works great... It's only shooting at 400 fps and I have no mag problems like he stated...

my type 96 has a little mag problem, like when you cock it the mag tends to come loose.nothing a little tape wont fix,but other than that i love it!

Apr 12, 2006 11:17pm

The only problems I could see with the SVD are 2 things:
Apr 13, 2006 5:10am
thanx a lot this really helped, i went to AEX yesterday and test fired the SVD and liked it a lot, it was somewhat difficult to cock, but not because it it too strong, but because the cocking handle cut into my hand, but gloves can fix that,
Apr 13, 2006 5:26am
id have to disagree with the "96 not lasting long" part of your post...mine has gone through 3 owners i beleive...as in, im the 3rd. the only thing wrong is the safety broke, but thats because my mom dropped books on it...

actually there are extra mags for teh svd. you can get them either at shortyusa.com or at depot53.com, and just wondering how much was it to upgrade the 96 (plus the price of teh gun)

k thanx, i think im gonna take a risk and get the SVD, since not many people have it.
Apr 13, 2006 5:44am
alright, well, have fun cocking that thing...haha.. mine is actually really close to a gas rifle...thats how easy mine is...
Apr 13, 2006 5:58am
theres special scope mounts for the SVD...how do you think AK's have scopes
Apr 13, 2006 6:02am
...
Apr 13, 2006 6:05am
doesn't the svd scope look like this?
Apr 13, 2006 6:06am
all right i see what your sayin, and the gun wasnt hard to cock, just like any other sniper i've used, its just without gloves the cocking handle is, i guess sharp, and it was sort of cutting into my hand
Apr 13, 2006 6:10am
the 96 bolt almost fits right in your hand...its reallllllllly easy to cock...i can get like 10 shots out in about 5 seconds... but, if i was scoping in and trying to aim, it would be about 10 seconds...but stilll, its really nice timing for a sniper...i hate having a hard to cock gun, and being stuck in a game....yeah, it sucks.
Apr 13, 2006 6:13am
yea i know what you meen but as a sniper you shouldnt be pulling off that many rounds so fast
Apr 13, 2006 6:14am
true, but it just goes to show how easy it is to cock and be ready...haha.
Apr 13, 2006 11:13am
I know I'm coming into this kind of late but I vote Type 96.
And should another macabre spectacle like that occur... I can promise you gentleman a day of reckoning you will not live long enough to never forget. -Way of the Gun

Yeah, this is kinda late too but the 96 not lasting long... I've had mine for about 3 months now with no problems...

first im talking about the spring versions of both guns, second im not saying the type-96 won't last long, what im saying is that it seems less solid than the SVD, or at least thats what i meant to say, there both good guns and im not knocking either of them, ill probably eventually get the type-96 also, but from what people are saying in the polls im gonna go SVD, and ill probably get the l96 later
