Accuracy

Aug 18, 2007 1:01am
Due to the variability of fps and barrel diameter and hop-up and all sorts of thing, there is no definitive 'Accuracy' airsoft test. The definition is completely variable between players.

The engagement distance is not meant for accuracy but for safety. A marksman is and should be able to compensate for external factors including wind, distance, elevation, humidity, speed of target, vector of the shot, caliber of round being used and the "hardness" or level of protection the target is wearing or has. All of this is calculated within seconds. With that said it is the one's ability to accomplish such with whatever is given is more important than anything else. Your time at the range should be spent understanding the capabilities of your weapon and knowing how to compensate for such variables.

To put it in perspective, I can easily hit a man size target with a PTW running a black cylinder (approx 350 fps w/ .20) and using .30 bbs at the same range.
The engagement distance is not meant for accuracy but for safety.
Yeah, it's for safety. I know that. My point was that the SacAir Supreme Being[s] wouldn't set a 400-foot engagement distance in place if he/she/it/they knew that no gun would reach beyond 400 feet.

again that has nothing to do with maximum range but all to do with safety. If a rifle only has an effective range of say 75ft and shoots at 600FPS that doesn't mean that the minimum engagement distance will/should be lowered to the effective range. It is still unsafe to hit anyone under 100ft at that FPS period.

They were highly tuned bolt action sniper rifles. As I said, high fps, but they are in Hawaii where velocity rules are a little higher (private games as well). Heck, the old Killer Studio Predators at around 550 fps could hit 100 yds easily (man size target).

I'd really like to see an airsoft BB accurate at 100 yds. that is amazing.

Yeah, 100yd accuracy is quite impressive for a smooth-bore 6mm airsoft gun.

"Accuracy" is loose term, and like you said, is player specific. Even with my sniper rifles, I have never really extensively tested their accuracy past 230-250 ft, as most situations haven't really called for it. Then again, I don't play like a "true" sniper, but when it comes to accuracy, it's also about playing style.
