TM M4 w/ CA Metal Body Firing Problem--!

May 11, 2006 5:59pm
Installed a CA M15 metal body onto my TM M4. Body seems to be in good shape, everything fit fine, trigger was a little snug but some light filling took care of that. Gun goes back together, only have safe and semi auto only now. When the selector switch is in full auto, still only fires semi auto.

Just swapped in the selector switch from my TM body, they looked to be the same dimensions, but figured it was worth a try--no joy.

hmmmmm. I've ran into this before. What happened was the rear of the selector plate was hitting/rubbing on the body towards the rear where the stock is and the body starts to 'curve in'. Get my drift? Easier shown than written....by me atleast.

check the connectors underneath the selctor plate, there are two metal tabs that need to make contact with the selector plate. Sometimes the body will be such a tight fit that it will contort the selector plate just enough not to make good enough contact. You might want to check that but it sounds like it could also be the little spring (or lack there of) that sits on top of teh selector plate that holds tension with a metal "tab" inside teh gearbox, you may want to check to make sure it still has its full range of motion.

I filed down the selector plate since they are so easy and cheap to replace.

you may want to try just putting the gearbox into the lower and hhok up the motor and grip and see if it shoots any different or if there is anything hanging up.

Andrew--there is no unusual resistance when trying to put the selector in auto... when I peer into the lower, the selector switch seems to move backwards when in auto, I don't know if its far enough however.

Installed the gearbox back into the plastic TM lower... full auto works fine. Filed down the selector switch a bit, didn't help any--from above, it looks like the selector plate is moving enough distance, but I don't have enough experience with these things to make that call... Looks like there is plenty of clearance in the body as well...

Not out of the woods yet--once I tighten up the rest of the body, problem comes back--I'll try the spacer between gearbox/body thing next, since the final nail in the full-auto coffin seems to be the final torque-up on the stock screw.

Here's how to do it, it's jankey but it's basically the standard way to fix it.

Bolt catch, not cover. lol. Anyway, see the little pin on the underside? Snip it off. Should fit now.
