M1 Garand Questions

May 19, 2006 12:39am
i want to buy an M1 but im wondering if its worth it. i hear that they break easy and they dont shoot very fast and many down falls to it; but then ive also heard that they are awsome, and realistic and are extremely nice, and the only problem is that they are expensive. could someone clear this up for me? possibly someone that ons an M1 could have first hand experience on this topic...

I know the M1 Garand in and out. I used it so damn much I could almost bet money I could strip it blindfolded. LOL. The naval unit I trained in did drill, PT, and range exercises with the m1. Every NROTC unit has them but mine was one of the lucky few to actually get live fire practice. It's a great gun. Makes a very pleasurable ping when you run dry on ammo. Its one of the most accurate things i've ever shot. You can achieve match grade accuracy at beyond 700 yard with this rifle. I've never shot it beyond 500 yards but from what I can tell you Its great, reliable, loud, and pretty. The 30-06 caliber round has quite a bit of horsepower to it but its not as bad as shooting a bolt action 30-06. This gas recoil system helps some. Ammo can get expensive if your not shooting surplus ammo. The average 30-06 round will be about 50 cents a pop. Surplus ammo will be around 25 cents a pop but not everyone carries surplus ammo. If you want a great rifle, lots off accuracy, and combat proven reliability then this is definitely a gun to check out. I will warn you though, the M1 is quite pricey and so is the ammo. If you have not shot larger caliber rifles than you may not be thilled with the excessive recoil. Its not too bad but it can be quite rough, especially without a recoil pad on the stock. If you're not too sure than go with the new bushmaster Carbon 15. Its the only high quality CA legal AR-15 you can buy. All the other stuff is crap. I just bought this bushmaster and its pretty sweet. Also, if you move out of CA the Bushmaster Carbon 15 can be sent to the bushmaster factory and they will cut out the bottom of the carbon fiber receiver to allow it to take standard ar-15/m16 mags. This is the only CA legal AR-15 that is built to military specifications and that can also be modified to take mags if you move out of CA. Its also gonna be slightly cheaoer than the M1 Garand and ammo for it can be as low as 5 cents a round. Thats right folks 5 pennies. The M1 is somewhere around $1100-1300 if my memory serves me correctly and my bushmaster was $1000 after tax and background check.

I am almost positive he means in airsoft form--I'm basing this on the fact that he used the qualifier "realistic" in his post.
