Multicam question

May 25, 2006 4:27am
i would like to get some multicam but dont exactly have $200 to throw down on a set of Crye precision. i noticed alot of replica multicam bdus and i was wondering how the replicas compare with the real Crye i.e. color, pattern, material, etc.

you find anything out lemme know. i want some multi cam hella bad, but dont wanna spend the bank for it

Haven't had a chance to look at the replica's from overseas in person yet. However, all the photos shown were not exactly hi-res or close ups which lends me to believe they're horrible knock-offs at best.

Since Crye is not lisensing the pattern for printing overseas, they are pretty much controlling ALL materials you see printed in MultiCam. I have both the Combat Uniform and Field Uniforms and can say that the sewing quality is going to be hard to beat. I've seen at least three other vendors making "BDU"s, at least one of the vendors is making crappy quality "ACU" cut uniforms. Do yourself a favor, save up some money and buy a uniform from Crye.

talon, the first time i saw that jacket, is when i fell in love with multicam
May 25, 2006 4:59am
Well Talon, if we were to set aside the sewmanship of the bdu's. How effective do you think their version of multicam will be? Meaning will it perform like the true stuff in field in terms of camoflauging.

Like I said above ITS THE SAME MATERIAL. Crye is controling ALL manufacturing of any material with MultiCam pattern. So unless the Chinese copy it, (which I'm sure they're working on it) its all printed in the USA for Cyre Precision. Anyone can go to the Crye webiste and order any of the materials printed with MultiCam.

I believe the Chinese have already copied the material since full sets from HK are now going for less then $100USD.

When you say "full sets" does that mean they look identical to the Crye Field Uniform? Combat Uniform? Remember HK is not China. I know of a tactical gear manufacturer based in HK that is using Crye materials but sewn in China. Can you send me a link to this HK supplier?

Not exact duplicates of the Crye setup but rather standard bdu style or acu cut. And to me HK is China. They are physically located in China, they are technically under China's rule and therefore to me they are a part of China.

HK is not in China. HK governs themselves. HK drives on the "other" side of the road. I've been to both places and they are two very different countries. We're getting a bit off topic here.

We are and to get back on topic I'm just curious as to whether or not that genuine crye fabric or a knockoff.

The down side of the Combat Pants is that they are very heavy-duty, with an emphasis on heavy. Kind of like motorcross pants, somewhat stiff and bulky. The Combat Shirt works great with the Field Pants. I'm sure you'd be OK with a non-Crye Pant until you get your Combat ones from Crye.

hmmm...may have to rethink the combat pants then. Though I do like the hard kneepads for it.

i'm a little cconfused, the combat pants are heavy with hard kneepads but the combat shirt is kinda like underarmor? While the field uniform is more like the BDU or ACU in weight and general design? (i know they're all different in design)
May 25, 2006 7:24pm
combat shirt is designed for DA and worn under ballistic armouring which is why it's got the compression shirt part. That way it reduces weight, drag and keeps the user cooler while wearing 70+lbs of armour and gear.

The Chinese multicam copies go for $70 on ebay. They have the inserts for integrated knee and elbow pads, but they aren't for hard pads, more like cheap foam inserts.

As I told a buddy of mine, prepare for the onslaught/flood of new multicam wearers now that there's an inexpensive supplier of decent quality.

Thanks for the info wupjak. This should make alot of people happy. I guess multicam will begin to loose it's appeal to the gucci crowd since it ain't gonna be gucci anymore. The stitching sounds like it'll hold and hopefully the dye will too.

The field pants are better than the BDUs or ACUs in both features and build quality. They also have a custom molded internal knee pad that works great! No more pinched off legs due to knee-pads. Go to the Crye Precision website.

Guh...if only the Genuine stuff weren't so damn expensive -- you're looking at $300+ for a "genuine" MultiCam shirt/pant/vest set! Insane!

Actually it's not insane at all. The features of the Crye sets, aside from the pattern itself, are far above and beyond any current military issued combat uniforms aside from the Corps issued MARPATS.

The elitist attitude already exists before multicam came around. It's just that like zachy said with the knockoffs coming around it's not going to be so sexy anymore with everyone wearing it. I've got a CIRAS too and actually it's quite comfortable with or without the combat shirt. The combat shirt though is great for hot summer weathers. You've got fullskin protection from the elements yet remaining cool and refreshing...not to mention very gucci ;)
