Way to keep the M16 internal sound quiet?

okay, this may be a noob question for everyone else, but I'm just starting to work on my own stuff.

60% of the sound comes from the gearbox itself. While the other 40% is the air exiting the barrel. You can alleviate sound from the barrel by using a silencer of course. Silencing the gearbox is an entirely different problem altogether. Most people have tried to stuff the cavity space between the gearbox and body with foam or some kind of sound insulation mostly to no avail on the m4/m16 lineup.

get a low noise pistol grip. cuz alot of the sound comes from the motor as well

Thanks. I have a G&P vietnam pistol grip on it. That's my dilemma, the rifle must stay in VN configuration. I guess, I'll be going inside and replacing the gears with bushings.

my buddy had me dremmel out his pistol grip a lil bit, and he fit dynamat in the newly aquired space. quieted down the motor, but it made the grip fell more flimsy

That metal body doesn't help either. It actually makes the gearbox noise levels louder. Do what Freq 88 said, it really helps. And don't replce your gears with bushings. lol, jk We know what you meant.

would not recommend wrapping up the motor. It needs to breath to keep from overheating and causing premature motor failure.

thats what i told him, but low and behold, the motor is still going strong 2 years on down the road
