Real Vs. Airsoft: The AK-47 Review

Aug 2, 2006 2:09am
Hey all! I’m sure I thrilled you all with my review of the Bushmaster Carbon-15 and its comparison to air soft but now I have something even better, The AKM-47 assault rifle. Yes, I know what you are thinking, WTF, HOW IS THAT LEGAL????? Well my answer to that is called “the off-list” Off-list rifles and receivers are perfectly legal to buy without the risk of any legal complications as long as you build your rifle to legal specifications. The tricky part is finding an FFL dealer who keeps up to date on laws and understands that these parts are legal to own. The great part is that if you buy one of these rifles or receivers and the state bans it you will have 90 days to register it as a legal weapon. But enough of the legal mumbo jumbo; If you are interested in building your own AK like I did you must always consult you local laws, state laws, federal laws, the DOJ, and the ATF. We did many weeks of research on the legality of the project, how to build it safely, and finally, after many weeks of research and phone calls the DOJ and the ATF we came to one answer. It is perfectly legal to build your own rifle as long as the features obey state and local laws (penal code 12276.1 if I remember correctly, its all listed on the DOJ site and Calguns.net) and you build on a legal, and non-banned, receiver. Both the DOJ and ATF literally said that it is legal to build your own rifle as long as you don't sell it, manufacture it, build it from scratch materials, and build on a legal receiver and to legal specifications. For the purpose of this review I affixed the mag via a temporary fixing device (made by TAPCO if you are interested) located just below the front receiver trunnion to make it legal for me to show you. For specifics on why I did this just read the penal code. I cannot reiterate enough that YOU MUST BUILD IT IN A COMPLIANT STATE OR IT IS AN ASSAULT WEAPON AND THUS ILLEGAL!! A.K.A, IN SHORT, FIX THE MAG OR REMOVE THE PISTOL GRIP AND FLASH SUPPRESSOR!!!!!

I forgot to mention that because I replaced my stock set I won't be needing the wood. Its up for sale for anybody that wants it. So far i've had offers for $60. I put a lot of time into the refurb. Red mahogony stain and double coats of verathane. Very smooth and very well done. These can easilt be modded to fit airsoft.

Its not that innaccurate. A 1 ft diameter circle at 100 yards means that there is a 6" spread at 100 yards. The military's m16 does not leave the factory unless it has a 4 inch spread or better at 100 yards.

I was originally going to make an AKS but the parts kits alone start at $600-700. Thats just for the yugoslavian/Romanian/Polish ones. I don't even want to know what a russian parts kit costs
