I was wondering if you put a red dot scope directly onto the flat rail on top of sr-16, if the view would be obstructed by the front sight. Do you need to buy a higher scope mount for it to work?
nope will work just fine that way, just sight your scope, the dot should be directly about the front sight, if you want it that way.

If you get one of those "lower priced" red dots that have integral mounts on it. The front sight will obstruct your sight especially if its a small tube like a 30mm. Now if you get a 42mm tube or larger then you may be able to line up the dot with your front sight..... Maybe...
