Technology

I just finished reading a two part article on Carlos Hathcock's life and how sniper training has evolved since his infamous accolades in Vietnam. I found much truth in the article and in Hathcock's views. Hathcock can be looked upon as the "grandfather" of sniping one cou;d say. What makes a good sniper in Hathcock's opinion? Patience and dedication foremost. Technology has it's places for most things in our modern lives, however when incoporating many types of "gadgets" into the world of scout sniping it is better left with the KISS analogy. Keep It Simple Stupid!! All of those gadgets are fine and dandy if you are augmenting your rifle, but do not make the mistake of building your rifle around the technology. Instead keep your rifle simple and use very little technology to succeed in sniping. What was most hilarious in the article I found was this quote from Carlos Hathcock when approaching an open house event at Quantico, VA's Marine Corps Sniper training facility......Hathcock approached a table lined with super high tech gadgets and gizmos and asked the sniper Sgt "What's all this sh@t?" Well put Mr. Hathcock!!! Keep it simple people!!

The snipers who fought in WW2, WW1, Civil War, and even the revolution proved well before vietnam that Technology has nothing to do with Sniping.
