im 16 but my dad want to buy a ar15 kit you put together yourself any website you know if where i can get one. im new to buildong actual guns and i want something to do for the winter

You need to find a preban or offlist lower. You can only get it through an FFL. Uppers are legal as long as the barrels are 16 inches or over. You can buy complete upper kits(upper, bolt, carrier, barrel, etc) for 600-800? Theres a 10 day waiting period on the lower. Then you need a lower parts kit. You can only use 10 round fixed mags(meaning you have to open the gun to load it). Semi auto only, yadda yadda.

You can get uppers from online, but you have to go through a FFL to get a lower.

If you want to build an AR then I know a guy that will transfer lowers for you. You can buy complete AR rifle kits (minus the lower receiver) from many places. The A brands are colt, armalite, bushmaster, and cmmg, Rock River Arms, and DPMS. If you want to save some money and build a rifle that wil just meet mil-spec and not exceed it then go with the kits from model1sales.com. A basic non-chrome lined carbine or rifle kit is $435. You really get what you pay for. And just FYI, AR builds take about 10-15 minutes once u have the parts. If you really want something to do for the winter then get an AK parts kit and receiver and build ur own AK. The build time for those can take up to a month but with the proper tools it can be done in a 1-2 weeks (Kroil treatment of the barrel pin will take a week). AKs are also way cheaper. Mine was $350 to build. Hope that was helpful.

colt is on the ban list so you will have to find a preban lower, which will most likely be used and a complete gun. Have your dad register on gunbroker or ar15.com and see if there are any CA legal preban colts. I say your dad because you have to have a credit card to register on gunbroker, they are very serious and very secure, good site.
