from my experience. avoid sony like the plague. boght two lappys from sony. both had screen issues. same problem. sony refused to fix. have a dell. works perfect.
If you are getting a lap top and using it as a lap top (its gonna be disconnected from the wall), do not get one with a Pentium 4 or some other standard proccessor. I bought mine before the whole mobile technology stuff. A Pentium 4 is a power hungry, piece of crap! Get either a AMD Mobile Processor or a Intel Mobile Processor, it will save your battery. I think they are slightly slower than desktop processors, but i know they are atleast around 1.5GHZ (?). Someone can check me on this....

yeah the mobile ones are from 1.2-1.8Ghz usually. I think they have one that's 2ghz.
Dell or Hp, If you've got tons of cash an IBM is the way to go, very solid plus innovative features (But not necesarilly meant for gaming)
you are full of crap I have played my friends laptop in a lan party and fear worked fine. Have you even tryed it or do you like to spew out bulshit . it works period.
Right now I own a IBM thinkpad T42 and Besides the Hard drive check in the bios (which is not an issue with mine, and can be avoided by not doing the latest bios upgrades) this has been my 2nd favorite laptop. It's super durable, has great performance and speed, good battery life and innovative features like a biometrics finger print scanner and a keyboard light so i can type in the dark, couple that with a magnesium LCD backing, and you've got a solid laptop. Drawbacks are that it's super expensive, and sub par for gaming, Although I am a firm believer in multi-player games so i have no issue with my Counter strike Source setting on medium, and still having fun.
I have 3 Sony laptops. I had to replace 1 display under warrenty. Wireless is not as robust as it should be, but still very good laptops. Performance is so so.
i got my hp from Circet City in roseville or sac i cant remember it has

Yes you said it played it at medium settings. I guess that would depend one what "medium" settings are. medium settings in fear are all the effects set to medium, 2x fsaa, and at least 4x anistropic as those are half (medium) of the full settings (except the max AF is 16), at im going to say 1024x768 could pass for medium. My mistake I thought it would have a hard time running it on any settings with no dedicated vram, but it is ati instead of an intel chipset so it can do some ok graphics processing.
