Is airsoft going mainstream and if it is what do you think that will do to the game?

i kinda agree. i think it's growing but that it won't ever hit the mainstream acceptance. part of this is that airsoft guns look real and there are always going to be those who disapprove of the hobby because of that fact. one of the reasons paintball is more mainstream because there's no controversy about whether a paintball marker should be legal or not.

see i disagree in that asspect of keeping peeps away, I think that the realism is wahts drawing peeps into it and its what giving the sport its drive to people. Atleast thats what i feel is happening. :D

i dunno, i think some of it has to do with the fack that you can spend $100 on a cheap marker, mask and tank, and still play paintball, and have fun. With airsoft, you can get a $100 gun, but you will most likely be velocity challenged (thus crappy range), while with paintball, all the guns should be shooting around 290 fps. i think just because of that, its a little bit more noob friendly.

yeah i don't think that it will get as big as paint ball because of the realism aspect. mainstream America says guns are bad and most people will assume that because airsoft guns look so real they must be bad too. ironically the realism aspect does seem to be the major attractor to the sport. i know no less than 8 guys that go to my school that got into the sport because of the realism factor that paint ball just couldn't offer. also the more people that have airsoft guns, even if there cheap airsoft guns, the more people that will be stupid with them and give airsoft a bad name, like in the case where the boy took an airsoft gn to school and was taken out by swat in the bathroom. but best i can tell, yes airsoft is getting bigger but airsoft probably wont be as big as paint ball.

i disagree that mainstream america thinks guns are bad... Its just the message that is shouted the loudest (notice liberals are really really good at protesting things they don't like and getting the media to cover it). The only people i've met that don't like guns are females and that just cuz the loud noise scares them :p.

Unfortunately I don't think that airsoft will ever grow to be as big as paintball has become. The primary reason I see is liability. There are too many idiot parents that allow their children to run around with cheap springer pistols. All it takes is some of dad's good ol fashioned rattle can and presto, realistic looking replica pistola. Unfortunately again I think that a couple of deaths will happen because of that and law makers and law enforcement will push for a ban on sales and importation of airsoft replica pellet guns. I hope it never comes to that but let's not bullshit here......a purple and chrome paintball gun with a compressed air tank and motorized hopper is a whole lot more readily recognizable than say a dark charcoal or black rifle or pistol replica pellet gun.

Not sure about the whole thing.. but if theres a full page advert in this Months Maxim of airsplat.com featuring a good looking model in a x-mas style bikini holding airsoft pistols and surrounded by systema and G&P Aeg's being counted as becoming mainstream? im not sure about anything cuase im still new at this but i think they just might limit the use of air guns to adults only, most of the reports ive seen on airsoft related crimes happened with minors. well anyway i hope they wont try to stop selling these in US, wont be suprised tho. but my answer to that is to buy alot now while you can hehe...

I believe airsoft will stay taboo in the minds of many, alot of people don't accept the idea of running around with realistic looking guns and shooting at each other, I understand where they are coming from for the most part..... growing up alot of us was taught gun safety i.e. always treat a gun like its loaded and never point a gun at something you don't intend to shoot, well in this "sport" alot of the people I have played with don't ever use any sort of gun safety techniques..... also I say "sport" because its not in my opinion we are reenactors with live rounds just no life threatening rounds we are the medium between war reenactors and paintball........ these are my thoughts thanks for letting me put my .02 in
