Tokyo Marui SOCOM M-14 Smell

Jan 12, 2007 1:12am
I know other people have noticed this and I was wondering if anybody had found out what it was. When fired, the TM M14s (it happens with the standard M14s too, both OD and wood stock) give off a very strange smell. It's almost like a mechanical or chemical smell. It's not burning plastic or rubber or burning anything for that matter, and it's not silicone (lube or whatnot). I've never had an airsoft gun give off a smell when fired, especially one this strong. It fires perfectly fine, except for the smell. I was wondering if it's normal because of the internals or whether I should be worried. If anybody has any ideas, post them or PM me. Thanks.

read the manual

That's the first place I checked. The troubleshooting section in the back only talks about things like "No operation at all", "impossible full-auto operation", "shooting distance becomes shorter", "too loud operation noise", "if it gets wet". It covers the most common and basic problems. Thanks though.

Nothing inside the gun was out of the ordinary as far as I could tell. I've only had it for two weeks or so, and it's been doing it since day one.

I guess you missed this:

Yeah, I don't remember reading that when I was skimming the manual looking for information. I came here because I've fired plenty of new airsoft guns and none of them with the exception of the M14s have smelled like that. Thanks for the help.

I think the levelheadedness comes from gaming with idiots who do nothing but insult eachother all the time. You learn to tune it out or you just stop gaming (which is the best way to get rid of it tbh).

True. It's not like it smells awful either; it's bearable.
