5.56 vs. 6.8 SPC vs. 6.8 MPC vs. 6.6 Grendel
So I'm arguing about this with a friend. He's a firm believer in the 5.56. I'm all for a change. What do the R/S aficionados here think? More importantly, why do you think what you do?
For what purpose? If its just for shooting at the range id go 5.56 as ammo is a lot cheaper.

Who knows, the rise of the 5.56 was a while ago, i think it is time for the 7.62 to rise back up :). But 5.56's are everywhere now and the worst part is that 5.56's were most desired in the time period where new guns were being manufactured and they were all fitted with the 5.56 so it is harder not impossible, to find a good 7.62 gun. I like the 7.62 because it packs a punch but the 5.56 is quite nice, i find its size to be perfect.

5.56/.223. It works, its cheap(sorta), and for this country and others, its readily available if needed. MOST engagements are well within 500 yards. If ya want something thats gonna hit long range, get a different gun.

Thats all i wanted to convey. There are more than a few sites out there with 'real' people on there with opinions that hold water. Could be an interesting topic.

Agreed. Until the other 2 rounds become an international standard, I'll stick with 5.56 NATO. Without available ammo, a rifle is just a big club.

I like the 5.56, but I just like the 7.62, both for the Ak and for the M14 much better.
Sure, which bullet? Typical issue strait-through-soft-armor type? Or civilian bought personal defense ammo that is just as good as larger calibers?
Also, since it has a lower mass, the round allows for more rounds to be carried per given weight as opposed to SPC, MPC, Grendel.
For range fun or practice I would say 5.56. For battle conditions I would want either the .308 round for long distance fights or 6.8 to take the bad guys down without multiple shots per person.
