M249,s SAWs or Big honkin' Rifles?
I had a bad experience with a CA 249 and am wondering what the general consensus, (preferably among those who have owned them,) is on the practicality and application of support weapons in airsoft. Has anyone been able to actually use theirs like a true support weapon, or do you have to use them like rifles, sticking to shorter, more conservative, bursts? Anyone with experience with m60 and m249 variants please post up. :D

Looooong bursts.

SAWs, m249's, M60's etc regardless is meant for suppressive fire. You're less concerned with getting kills as you are with keeping the other side pinned down. While having better range helps if you can have a high ROF that is reliable under super long bursts then you're golden. Also having it sound really loud maintains a huge psychological factor ;)

What exactly is wrong with your m249?
it probably wasn't getting enough kills. You know SAW's are supposed to be killing machines

it's not that m249's shoot that much better than any other AEG, its the intimidation and psychological factor. I love my saw tho i wouldnt sell it for any reasonable price. And about the whole support concept. Its about half and half. Sometimes i will lay down support, other times i get board and go run around.

I purchased the CA249 and burned 2 pistons in three days. I wasn't about to keep paying $50.00 every game for pistons on a gun i wasn't even using like a rifle, I freaking babied that thing so much, and it shat on me chest. I heard today that maybe I just had a burr or a defect in the gearbox itself, as opposed to just having dirty internals, or pre-damaged pistons. I am kinda kicking myself for trading it back in, but I made meself a decent A2 so I have mixed feelings. :?

50 bucks. Dang. No wonder your frustrated. What kind of piston are they? I myself like the saws. I like it so much that I have 2 of them. And I had no problem with piston. But then again, I also don't abuse mine. I do short burst. I dont empty out my box mag.

If I do end up getting another one, I will be spending big $$ for something nice like an Inokatsu VN, if I do go crawling back to CA I think I'll try the Para, because I seem to be hearing a lot more reliability coming out of much more abused SAWs than mine ever did :? Damn Travis let me hold one again and I think I have the bug once more...

once u put ALOT of money into the gear box they are great, thats waht i was telling u the other day, like snoops saw that thing was amazing. nemisis saw's are golden, johny's saws were great. ROnnies saws are sick, they just require some time into them to get them tuned right.

Naah, the only people I let into my gear box were Ronnie and Andrew. If I messed up my gun I would have said so and let Ronnie & Andrew sort it out for me. I've come to the conclusion that yes I did have a lemon, because, believe it or not. I am not THAT big of an idiot. I feel some snide comments coming, lol *helmet* I definitely think I'll go with the CA 249 para.

Jeff at gamepod specializes in M249's. He turned mine into a beeeeeeeeautiful BB spitting machine.
I think inokatsu did that to replicate the actual cardboard boxes dropped into the cloth mags on the real M60's. A cheap fix would be to just wrap it in duct tape

Spend the money and go gas, then you will have a real saw, that is what I am saving up for, I fricken hate aeg's!

dunno about inokatsu making their own gbbs but i do know that escort has taken several inokatsu kits (m60s and ak's...other guns are in progress) and fitted their co2 based gbb system in them. They look sick. full blowback. use regular mags. and they are apparently indestructable internally...something like at least 500,000 rounds before you need any minor maintenance.

Has CA made any internal changes to their m249s since their release, cuz someone was trying to convince me the later ones had slight differences. I dunno. :?
