Tightbore Barrels

Are tightbore barrels a wast of money?
I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.

Yeah from what i have been told you get more range from using a better hop up bucking and hop up unit. Then the tightbore only adds about 10 to 20 fps. As far as accuracy goes its more about the wind and the bbs you are using. + it gives you more of a chance for a bb to jam.

It's all about skill anyway. Tighbore barrels mean using more expensive bbs.

Tightbore barrels make your AEG more picky, and increase the likelyhood of getting a JAM.

yes; yes they

I disagree. It makes tighter groupings which in my opinion is better than just upgrading the spring. FPS is not everything. You can have a 400 fps gun that will shoot hard but have shitty range. Range will go up considerably with a tightbore barrel. A good hop up also helps too; ie the improved hop up systems in the type 89, m14, and new marui pistols. If I had to pick a single part to upgrade, my vote would go towards the barrel. It's what I did back when I had my m14 and even with a shorter length tightbore barrel, my range and accuracy went up considerably.

you can't compare apples with oranges. The hop twist barrel is grooved while a standard barrel is not. It would be better to find a medium range distance and test for accuracy with different bored barrels.

I got an almost 35 fps increase when i put a tightbore in my SEALS. Might have been a freak chance but i was using same bb's and same chrono.

to quote the creator of the twist barrel "Therefore, it improves grouping quality, but it doesn’t improve the range and the muzzle velocity in comparison with the normal hop up barrel." -Koba

Again I think that maybe more due to the fact that your hop was seated better after installation of the barrel rather then the barrel itself.

that's a very distinct possiblity. I'm still fairly new at the inner-workings of an airsoft gun.

Ok. I'll be honest. Hop twist barrels don't do anything. That's why mine is for sale. If anyone thinks they'll see serious gaines out of it, please buy my barrel. I could use the money. I've tried it with low fps and high fps. Made no difference.

Hey thanks for all the info guys. I don't think i will be buying any more thightbores.

I beg to differ. Hoptwists have been all the rage in Japan where low fps tuning is required. It can easily achieve ranges that even higher fps guns can't achieve. It's made quite an impact in Hawaii as well for those who opt to do low fps tuning.

Tightbores could help but they jam quite easily with starch based BB's. (At least i think they are starch based BB's that jam the gun.) But a Longer barrel does help.

I'm running a tightbore in my A2 and am unsure. So far I've had a love/hate relationship with it. It appears to do the job, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting a range boost, but even stock m733s have great range for airsoft purposes. I think that its worth it to stick with the stock barrel, not only to keep the flexibility of BBs your gun'll use, but to encourage yourself to get in close and work on skills, as opposed to lobbing BBs at people and running away.
I saw your quote. However, every gun w/ hoptwist that I have seen has had a significant increase in range.
only yours jasonz lol ya ive had them in a few guns with no sucsess well atleast noticable, the only time i have seen it really work was on Spences m15 i built him. With an m100 it was only shoot 290 (bad seals i fixed it) BUT the range was that of his m14 that was shooting 400 fps. THe hop was systema with systema bucking low fps great range. but thats the only itme i have seen them work. I would rather spend the 50$ on bb's or gas to get to games.

I've tried systema, guarder, and the KM tn barrels, along with stock marui, classic army, and G&P barrels. Tigtbore barrels: they make a small difference, in range and accuracy: the price to performance ratio isn't the greatest, but I like my barrels.

From my experience tightbores have made a difference in my guns...

If Anything a good hop unit and clean barrel will provide better range, and grouping results, more so than any magic tight bore barrel.
