Glock Tests

Here are a few good reasons to buy a Glock. I have shot many pistols, and I like many of them, but I found this interesting.

I read a quote somewhere by David Hackworth that was something like, "If you treat your gun like a lawnmower get a Glock. If you treat your gun like a fine tuned machine get a 1911."

ya, ive also heard "if you want a side arm, get a 1911, if you need a side arm, get a glock."

I'm probably going to get flamed for this: while I have a definite appreciation for the functionality of Glocks, I don't like them for aesthetic reasons. I mean, when I look at them I see no personality in the gun. A Glock is a Glock is a Glock.

Only if the airsoft version of the Glock could go through that kind of abuse.

I took my love for 1911's and my love for glocks together. I bought a springfield XD 5" .45, I carry it with me every night at work, and it sits by my pillow during the day. Won't trade it for any other weapon in the world.

Last month I had to choose between the XD, 1911, M&P, and the Glock 17. I shot the XD, liked it, but shot the Glock much better. I will disagree on the looks thing though, although a 1911 is a beautiful firearm, and probably the best looking pistols out there, I don't think the Glock looks that bad. I just think it is a totally different style of gun. I will own a 1911 one day, when the wallet and wife allows of course.

Also, for anyone buying one, go to Buy, Sell, Trade off of Stockton and Fruitridge. Talk to Ed. He special ordered mine, and it was only $500+tax and DROS. About $75 cheaper than anywhere else.
A couple of other things I replaced right away were the magazine release(replaced with extended one), and slide catch. They are both too small for me, especially being left handed.
If I was right handed I would, but it is very difficult to release the mag. It really doesn't stick out much further than the stock one, but just enough to help. If I were to set my gun down, I would take the mag out anyway. It no way effects holstering.

I have kids at home, and I can't leave a loaded gun around. I am really just a range/weekend shooter. I could see there being problems in a tactical situation, and I do understand what you are saying.

Jesus Christ, long live the glock. Friggin airplane drop. Wow.

My first real steal was a G17, then I got a genuine Colt 1911. The are both my favorites but they both have different personalities. The G17 is hi capacity, light weight, feels just right for my medium size hands, simple blocky design, and can take a serious beating and keep on banging. The Colt 1911 is a classic beautiful piece, a bit on the heavy side with the steel frame, Single stack column magazine reliability, and 45 acp knock down power. Some in this forum said about shooting a Glock feels different then any other pistol is correct cause the Glock has a different angle grip and the trigger pull can be too soft for some folks while under pressure. That is why in New York City the Glocks used by the COPS have the heavier New York Triggers installed. another reason for the Glock reliablity in poor environment conditions is that the Glocks have large gaps between the slide and the frame to relieve gas pressure built up. On the other hand the 1911 ( the specific one that I own) has very tight tolerances. Maybe I should try a new XD 45 ACP to see if I can fine a good compromise between the two>
