I'll volunteer my Truck as a technical - it's a ranger, and it's really hard to roll because the center of gravity on it is really low. If everyone pitched in, we could get it a nice lift, it would be perfect for the field at nam...

That mean green machine (i think i just named it) just needs a belt and maybe some hardcore all terrain tires. It would be perfect for a technical vehicle. I don't think the center of gravity is the problem though - i have skidding problems in my truck too, but i think it has more to do with angry driving than my vehicle's capabilities. (I feel ya wraith - big time)

Building the turret itself would be cake. Get the pedastal mounts they use for the seats in bass boats. they rotate 360 degrees and have height adjustment. After one of those is in just need to build a cradle tou put the MG in.

what materials are needed for a cradle? and how much is that boat mount thing?

i'm definitely down, but i can't do it all by myself. If one or two others can pitch in with tools, and we can muster up enough money for the cost of supplies, (maybe have everyone pitch in 30 bucks or something), it's definitely doable.

I don't think a flame would be justified Steve, you pointed out a major organizational shortcoming within our group. As for saws, my rpk's not gonna look too cool until shawn fixes the drum mag...

I was thinking maybe some sort of wooden cradle on top of the boat thing that would pivot up and down to allow elevation adjustments. I would guess around $300 or so for the completed mount...
Apr 18, 2007 9:35pm
so we would need to muster up a decent amount of money (i'd be willing to volunteer my truck as a guinea pig for the mount)

I can handle every tool cept a welder, but not the garage.

I have minimal experience with a spot welder, but we need someone with a mig/tig welder who has experience. Or what we can do is drill through the bed of the truck and put some hefty bolts through the thing. The issue right now is money, i think. If we can muster up $500.00, i think we'll be good.

Actually the base is meant to be screwed down, so that part of it shouldn't be a problem. The bigger hurdle I see it how to mount to weapon on top...be it wood made or metal....

Do you have pics of it? Maybe that would help me understand better.

something like one of these http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SiteSearchView?catalogId=10001&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&keyword=pedastal+mounts&Ntt=pedastal+mounts&N=0&y=13&x=9&storeId=10001&Ntk=All_2&ddkey=SiteSearch

Yeah, if we could just bolt one of those in, we'd be set, we'd have to devise a mount for the actual weapon, but it shouldn't be too difficult. We'd probably need about 500.00 dollars to put the project together.
