Thanks, just wanted to make sure. I'm thinking of getting one when I move back. Just wanted to know if anyone has been through the experience and wanted to share.

Well after spending a week researching on and off-line I decided to get a Springfield Armory Loaded 1911A1. I will be getting it paid off in the near future so I will post pics or bring it to a RS shoot. Thank you.
I am looking at getting a 1911 style .45 pistol which holds at least 8 rounds. I would like a pistol that is reliable out of the box but that is pretty reasonable. Is Springfield a good starting point? Only thing I don't like about Springfield except certain models are the grips. They seem to like wood grips and I prefer black and plastic.
There are different holsters for different purposes. Your choice sidearms is a issue that can affec how you cary the thing. The environment you are in also is a factor to consider. I have tried shoulder holsters, cross draw holsters, hip (belt or paddle) holsters, fanny pack holsters, and no holster ( Mexican Carry as some gun magazine calls it) for CCW. In airsoft I have tried tactical (holsters strap to the upper thigh of your leg), vest cross draw, and vest strong side. Just about every PISTOLEROS have their opinion to what works best for them. Galcos are some of the best in the industry but they are very expensive. I have tried the fobus paddle which affortable, but I'm not comfy with it. The belt loop holster was a more comfiy. I have used a Galcos belly band hostler and was very satisfied cause with one holster you can do cross draw, side draw, and small on the back. However caution with hosterst
No CCW I am looking for something to carry around the house or at the range.
ok, this just kind of caught my eye, but in both those pics the hammer was pulled back. isnt that like, not good? isnt it maybe a good idea to de-cock it or something while its on your hip?

Will Kydex or Leather cause holster wear faster? I am thinking about getting a Galco or Comp-Tac Holster soon.
After going to the 1911forum I saw some really nice holsters made by the top names like Alessi, Milt Sparks...etc. They had a long wait period so I decided to do business with Kirkpatrick Leather.
http://www.kirkpatrickleather.com/awesome. where did you end up buying your SA from?
As I can recall guns and ammo magazine editors love nice leather holsters but do not recommend storing your piece in them cause leather has a natural acid in them that can cause stains on the finishing of your beloved real steel. On the other hand kydex, polymer, or high tech nylon holsters are cheaper and would not stain your piece over time. But some of the plastic ones don't last as long as leather ones.
cool. thats some nifty info. thanks for sharing!
Hmm I am looking at a future purchase of a TRP or Operator. Should I look at the railed or non railed version? I seen an Operator at my favorite store for $1200 .... how much more is the TRP?
D80 is selling a TRP for $1100 dros'd
