Star L86 LSW/LMG

Apr 20, 2007 1:14am
I have been looking around for an LMG that was not a 249 and was worth a poop. I saw the star L86-A2 on this site at the bottom of the page.

Nope the m249 box mag is for a m249. It is designed for a belt fed. Just looking at it should tell you that.

This thing is a freaking beast! I went down to Gamepod and checked it out and WOW, it is so long and heavy, it rivals my RPK. With regard to the box mag, the 249 one wont fit, as Johny pointed out, but AEX does sell one of these:

I read they shoot good. Do you know if anyone has ever owned one in the group? Do you think that AEX could get a hold of one? I am going into AEX tomorrow after work to get some more stuff and have the new single fire selector switch put on my CA25. On a side note I think AEX needs to upgrade their website. They don't give very many ratings/reviews or explanations on the stuff they sell. If anything it gives me something to read. I just dont like looking at the pretty pictures...:) LOL

you could always buy a G36E and put a c-mag and bipod on it to make a MG36. I currently have a G36K with a c-mag but have yet to get the G&P folding stock for a bigger battery.

Thats true a G36 with a C-mag would be another option. I am not sure on the "military" look of the C-mag though. Another option would be that new BAR....but that is pretty pricey. What are some other "good" LMG/ support weapons out there? I have heard that the TOP M60's are not great. Are there any others?

inokatsu m60's? or you can piss lineman off and get an rpk!
Apr 20, 2007 2:42am
RPk's are kits right? That I would not mind having.

I wouldn't be pissed off at all, inokatsu is coming out with a RPK kit w/ just the stock and heavy barrel/bipod, so it should be more affordable to build off of that. Don't know if AEX's got any plans to bring those in, however.

Well I just spoke to Trevis and he said they can order the L86, I can have it in about 2 weeks from the time I order it. So next month I think that is the way I am going to go....unless something else catches my eye before then... I hate (hobbys)addictions...

didn't get to ask the gamepod guys what battery the LSW took. Checked out the Ino RPKs at AEX, kinda meh, ya still had to replace the front sight block which was plastic.

Crap thats right the L86 has a mini type battery in the foregrip. Hmmm I will have to figure a way around that! Why in the frig would you put a mini battery in a LMG....that is just freaking stupid!!

the lack of battery space is always an issue, but the mfg has to find the balance between making a replica of a weapon and functionality. I'm sure there are better configs than a mini.

man I'd be down to get a L86, but then I'd feel compelled to get brit kit, and I really don't need anymore gear.

I know what you mean about the kit, but think of it like this....(its only money and you cant take it with you when you die) besides think of the kit purchase like a gun purchase, one uniform/gun is never enough. I have been in this hobby a short time but I think that was a messge not lost on me when I look at the owners collections/pictures forum. As for the G36K doesnt it also use a mini battery? My G36C has one as you know. Given the modular design of the real steel G36's I think that is smart/cheap to create an LMG/LSW this way. This falls back to the british kit comment, now I will have to get flecktarne(sp)! 8) Lineman66 are you going to the CQB field on Sunday?

ya im going to the cqb field, don't think im bringing the rpk though not real cqb-like lol. that and it's heavy as a mother, i think the LSW felt even heavier. See you there then hopefully.

Yea I know what you mean...LOL Anyway maybe we can be on the same team. This is my first airsoft event. I will probably use my G36C if I can get the new battery for it, if not then I will use my M4. Does everyone meet at BK?

lineman i thought u just kept all your guns in your car. haha what you bringing out to the cqb field?
Apr 20, 2007 4:19pm
hey, for an extra 90$ you get the full stock for a G36 and it will accomodate a much larger battery.

meh, u don't really need the kv stock, esp. if he's running it stock. A quality mini battery nowadays will last you days. I'm sure some of the older members remember when the minis only had 600mah and lasted 2 hicaps.

Well I solved the G36C I got the large fore stock and put an 8.4v 7 cell 3600Ma battery. This should solve the low rate of fire and 2 clips spent time to change the battery crap. With my M4 the rate of fire is very high with the 8.4v 8 cell 3600Ma battery and when I plugged it into the G36C its rate of fire went way up. Thats what made me decide to get away from the mini batteries all together. I was using the intellect 8.4v 1200 Ma mini batteries and frankly they just dont cut it. As far as the L86 it is making rethink getting it. Does anyone know if the have a large battery mod for it?
