well I got a M15a2 from NorCa Army/Navy...

If I remember correctly the M15a2 was on CAs displays awhile back as a new model? When they were showing off their M16a1, and AK-47s.

I fired and felt your gun Saturday dave, it seemed to handle just like my m15a4 before the upgrades. The feel is the same, the weights the same, the logos are the same, the design is the same, only difference was that mine has a rail and yours doesn't.

The a4 series does not all have rails. Only one model does. I've got the m4 version, if that's the version you have look at the front sling point, if it is a side attachment you have the new version a4, if it is an underneath attachment it is the old mechbox version. There's a few other differences also...

The reason you have a lower number is that yours is an A2, the A2s are numbered differently than the A4s.

I think the problem with the hop up is that CA decided to make everything really sturdy, but didn't take into consideration the fact that the hop up needs to be a little thinner. I've seen that problem on other CA guns, but as anguirus130 said, its a real quick fix.
