Someone on Arnies did an analysis of a spinning sphere going thru a smooth barrel. Basically the spinning BB will bounce up and down in the barrel until it stabilize at some point or the instability become negligible. The length of the barrel is somewhere close to the barrel length of a M4. But I say good quality BB and barrel is more important.

I had problems with my 614 with the tip of my barrel being loose. I shimmed it in place with a peice of paper and ended up cutting about 8" maybe more off my groupings at long range. Deffinatly somthing that I will pay close attention to on my guns from that day forward. I have a 14.5" barrel on my 614 using the supplied extender from echo 1.
