Rifle bag in the back seat is cool. Long arms are not "concealable on the person" and therefore not required to be locked and/or in the trunk; ammo must be however. There is a neat trick you can pull sometimes if the officer asks to search the car: if he hasn't told you he's giving you a warning and/or you haven't signed for the ticket you can take him to court and say that because he didn't issue you your ticket prior to asking to search, that you (poor victim) felt that he was threatening to ticket you if you did not consent to his search. But most of the time if you are respectful you can usually deny the right to search and it ends there.
In close range combat, an unsuspecting melon will get the back of its melon blown off.
