Slight grinding noise from gearbox.
I have a two year old ICS mp5 version 3 that i have always used as my primary. Many people speak poorly of this brand so i felt inclined to checkout the condition of the internals.

Hope you didn't lose a shim, wait, does ICS even use metal bushings and shims??
DJ (Dennis)
Yes it uses metal shims

start over again making sure there is no chips in the gears and clean out the box, re grease and re shim and check your motor hieght, you cuold have a wire cought in the grip that is throwing the angle off.
when you re-open the gearbox, check for shavings in the grease. as that should tell you something about the gears. After that, re-lube, and re-shim. should be golden

ok cleaned and regreased each gear and anti-reversial latch. Much of the grease was black, is that a bad sign? I looked at the gears and there are no visible cracks, chips or other such.

Did you adjust motor height?
yeah... so did I, and then I found out that the "full metal" body's just a paper thin sheet of metal wrapped around a plastic body... never again...

thanks but no thanks, I've still got one of those mags, and not too fond of them. TM AK hicaps for me from now on.

didnt I reshim your gun for you after you TIRED and after YOU put the anit reversal latch pointing towards the middle gear!!!!
I opened the gearbox again and throughouly cleaned each gear and the gearbox taking all the blackened grease out, re-examined the gears which looked fine, put new grease on and put it back together.

as for the MP5, ICS had about ~3-4 years to make improvements, and they did.

Ever handled a new TM ak? For being plastic they are SOLID.

oh I've owned one, still regret selling it, absolutely solid weapon.

Sorry guys, I'm not trying to make a debate, was just curious on which would be cheaper in the long run. I love TMs myself, a total biased opinion. LOL
DJ (Dennis)
I don't think there's a debate going on Dennis, I just think that people are pointing out how ICS and TM are different. TM in the long run will be cheaper and give you less headaches I believe, but ICS seems attractive (not to me) to people in the immediate present.
My best advice for new airsoft players:
So here is the question. Would you have saved more money buying a TM and then adding a MBK or buying a sort of MBK and then adding TM components? Just curious.

LOL, Too many variables. Needs to be bought from 1 place and no lying around spare parts. Not really a conclusive answer to my ?. Still love ya man.

for the OTB solution the TM is definitely the way to go. As Andrew's pointed out there's really no need to change out the body + furniture, but it you must, GP makes a real cheap wood kit that includes a metal front end, and throw on either a CA MB or one of those newer MB out of China (although CA is in HK which is china...) = wood/metal AK.
My best advice for new airsoft players:
I put a Prime MBK on mine. REALLY HEAVY.
