So yeah I just found out about them today. Seems pretty cool, but there is alot of controversy about them. Thoughts? I just thought it was the weirdest thing when i heard that we contract out mercenary army's.

been posted. Its the Assault on a US Army-Iraqi Police building with Blackwater contractors being security. Blackwater called for Army support, but was denied and that all incoming Helos were not to land or in that airspace. But a Blackwater chopper dropped off supplys and such, allowing the men to defend the facility for several hours.

Security firms, like Blackwater, are only able to fire weapons only in defence of themselves and only to get out of harms way. In the video...if the Civilians ( blackwater) are officaly seen as combatants under Mercinarys. Alteast so says NATO....

My brother served in Iraq (Army). He didn't think too highly of Blackwater guys -- according to him, they are/were basically truck driver [EDIT: escorts -- not the truck drivers themselves] that transported food around.

had a team of thier shooters at my firebase in asscrackistan, they had a contract with one of the OGA's that was with us. pretty decent guys, stayed a little aloof at times, but we shared the gym and chow hall. pretty nice guys, couple of them were "arrogant" but on the whole decent guys. no, they didn't deliver food and drive trucks. as a matter of fact, two were killed in an ambush doing "something" for the OGA. When BW started, they hired alot of former SEALS, the four that were killed in Fallujah were, from what I've heard from guys I know, they got "cocky" and unfortunately they screwed up. Oh well, happens to all of us.
Oh yea. What we know as PMCs are only a small part of they're services. If you go to Blackwater's site, you can see they don't just offer shooters.

i happen to know a great deal about black water,when i ran with 1st group,SF in Iraq we had a couple BW "shooters" running with us.they're good guys,mostly former SEALS,RANGER.DELTA,FORCE RECON,AIR FORCE PJ'S.All in all they're pulled right out of the best guys we have to offer,and they have a right to be cocky.we go through some of the toughest training the military has to offer.

That's an extraordinary situation, and in that case, with a threat to your life, engadgeing those individuals WOULD be appropriate under the geneva convention. The thing is that our government is using private organizations like blackwater to get around the Geneva Convention, ie illegally forceful interogation of detainees.

I edited my first statement. They weren't the truck drivers -- the truck drivers were Halliburton/KBR people. BlackwaterUSA was the armed escort.
