Isn't MFI the same airsoft place that recomends real body armor for skirmishes?

Don't know. This isn't really an "FYI" post, this is more of a discussion to get everyone's thoughts on this.

seriously, if you can't get firecrackers shipped from a company, then how are you going to get a silencer for a replica gun shipped here? wierd
America... just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.- HST.

it prolly is the law. but honestly...who cares? almost every person in airsoft has a silencer of some sort for airsoft and no one yet has gotten in trouble for it. And there are plenty of retailers who carry a wide variety of silencers and I doubt there is any trouble. Go to generation airsoft...their selection is pretty big. Fortress hobby even has a pretty good selection of silencers. it may be the law, but there are (like most any other law) ways to get around it that don't result in anyone getting hurt,

You can buy "moch" silencers for real steel guns and that's been done for a long time now? I agree that there is some validity in that article, but I think the governement has better things to do than to chase down airsofters.....

i will look into the legallity of their claim today

regarding the validity of their claim, I have deduced the following:

and to confirm that a BB gun is not a firearm:

If I'm not mistaken, at one point "paintball gun silencers" were pulled off shelves for a similar case?

i don't know about that, i will look for the precedent if it was a federal case, but the definition I pulled for silencer is federal law which supercedes state law and ordinances. It is defined in section 921(24)

Here is an article for paintball silencers.
... and if that device is capable of lowering the sound of a firearm beyond BATF determined limits - it is illegal and you, by making it, possessing it, selling it have comitted a crime ....
well, i'm just going off what i read. there is the spirit of the law, which is law interpretted by the individual, this interpretation can vary either way, pro or against silencers. And then there is the letter of the law, which is not open to interpretation. Both are used in todays law, some people use the spirit of the law when interpreting and enforcing law, some use letter. In our law office where I work, we mostly use spirit of the law interpretation, and most people do. The thing though, is that the people who are gunaphobes will always interpret their versions of the law as negativley as possible to benifit their vision as to how the world should be run. Most people in the BATF will agree that silencers should be illegal, so therefore will interpret the law as such, albiet to secure themselves from future lawsuits and whatnot.

So it looks like the legality issue continues to float around....

However...

that is debatable because it uses the word "intended." As long as you can prove you didn't have the intent to use an airsoft silencer to modify into a real steel silencer you are exempt from this element of this law.

That might be one of those "spirit of the law" issues again, though. If you go by the "letter of the law", you could do time for possession of parts, regardless of intent. A good example are parts to convert a rifle to full auto. If you possess the parts, even if they're not installed into a firearm, you are in violation of the law. Possession is a large part of the equation. But yeah, on the most part, they probably won't mess with you if you're playing airsoft and you have one on your gun.
