What makes a gun sopmod?

The Special Operations Peculiar Modification (SOPMOD) kit is an accessory system for the M4A1 Carbine used by USSOCOM. The kit allows special forces operators to configure their weapons to individual preferences and mission requirements. *taken from wikipedia*

basically its a gun with a rail system..

wrong. SOPMOD are "customized" systems meant for individual operators or a unit of operators in the SOCOM field. These are not limited to just rails, but everything. Barrels, trigger groups, magwell enhancers, grips, bolts, charging handles, optics, butt stocks, et al.

I would take what wikipedia has to say with a grain of salt. They have a lot of half truths on there since alot of it is user supplied info.

ive found that there usually a pretty decent source....

Technically speaking anything that requires an Armourer to work on becomes a "SOPMOD".
