Building New Computer
does this sound good??
you can pay for school but you cant buy class
none of the links are working for me via copy+paste.

not really...

ATI graphics? psh...way overpriced for what you get, unless you plan on overclocking it like crazy then it isnt worth it.
ok who cares if the video card is 512 MB, most computers can't even utilize all of it effectively.
Not sure where you got that info, but my computer with a 2.0 ghz athlon x2 can push the video ram to its limits.
what do you mean by push?
no overclocking, i'm just saying the ram is being completely used up when i run high stress applications...showing that it fully utilizes the memory
what high end applications are you talking about.
More ram does not mean better performance. 2 cards with the same chipset and the same clockspeed you will not see an advantage in 512 ram over 256 ram unless you are using resolutions higher that 2000xwhatever. As you will see here,

I know that he was talking about video memory but I would like to know what kind of application would use all 512 mb.
So i just did some more research on this matter. HL2: lost coast will take advantage of it running at 2048x1536 and on the highest settings, but not and any lower resolution. With Quake 4 the extra VRAM makes a huge difference at every resolution. Fear sees almost no impact. In all these cases, the extra Vram IS doing what its supposed to, and is getting used, whereas with the 256MB cards it has to start writing extra textures to system ram, but until you get to 2048x1536 at max settings in most games it wont give you a performance increase.

yeah no problem. XpoisonfreeX knows his shit as well though. I needed to research it as well because that was all what i thought but i just needed to prove it to myself because I work in the video card wall a lot at fry's and im always telling customers it doesn't matter unless they are doing some crazy gaming.

should i buy a new fan for my cpu?? or can i use my old one?

Haha. I try, I work at the Roseville one though, we seem to be more helpful and friendly then the sac store i hear but that still doesn't mean that everyone knows what they are talking about. Esp the other departments. My dad bought a tv and a dish washer at our store and none of the sales people he talked to knew what they were talking about, my dad knew more then them and he really shouldn't have known more then a person who works those departments. The service guys know what they are talking about (except this one idiot that thinks his p4 is better than any chip that amd has ever made), components does a good job, as does software, and us (computers).
