True Realism?

Aug 2, 2007 6:42am
Airsoft’s lines of realism, MILSIM, being able to impersonate either our fantasy soldier, or recreate past conflicts we may have even attended, are what keeps us in this sport. It’s only been recent, have I taken notice to change in the market, mainly in replicating Real-Steel parts for Airsoft usage and I’ve actually began to ask my self, how –real- are we?

You have quite a good point there.Though i think many airsofters usually go for the more "contractor" or "special forces" look.

I think this is one of the most informative and serious threads ive seen hear on a while. Kudos to you my good man.

Eh, most airsofter seem to want to replicate what they see over on ar15.com or a magazine. Thats cool and all. Different strokes for different folks.

Thanks Neema. Yea I too don't have much experence with military M4s. Police Ar-15s and SWAT M4 I have seen, and some are lightly modded with Low Profile rail covers, EoTechs, and Kinghts Armament Front ends. But then again, even these too, aren't real enough just due to the fact I saw these up close at Best of the West ( a compatition among Mainly Bay Area and a few out of state SWAT teams. Sunnyvale, my dad's department and at the time, his team, got first place overall )

I'm not a soldier or in the military but I am lazy and watch the military channel all day and from what I have seen new issue M16 rifles will have a rail system factory installed on them (nothing too fancy) but they say most soldiers use a PEQ unit and a VFG in their usual combat missions.

I myself, along with a few less vocal others actually just enjoy playing games with our friends, and do not play to emulate any typoe of military or police force. In all actuallity we don't enjoy real weapons at all.

"Real guys", who dont have their head up their ass trying to impress their buddies, use whatever they need for the job. If that involves an eotech, rails to hang a flashlight and grip off of, then so be it.

I think andrews right it is what really gets the job done. But in the world of airsoft looks are up there with accuracy to most people.

My personal airsoft guns are about as simple as they get. I dont need a bunch of BS hanging off my boomstick to kill the other guy.

In terms of issue weapons, it depends on the user and unit for the most part, anything from bone stock M16a2s, bone stock M4s, and USAF built M16 carbines with a different parts. And as Andrew said people use whatever they need to get the job done.
but its the crazy CQB-R, the Rail with a supressor instead of a barrel, that comes into question of how realistic are these weapons, when relating them to possable real-steel counter parts and they're real-life usefulness.
The same examples can be said about the Soldiers personal gear. Excluding Spec-Ops and PMCs who either buy or have they’re own personal gear, we don’t see the normal GI with fansy MOLLE vests with all the bells and whisles. Most are fortunate enough to have matching pouches with they’re gear. Its common to see a Marine or GI, wearing a Woodland vest over they’re DCUs. So what would be the realistic loadout? What would the average solider have on they’re rig besides twenty pounds of armor plating?

Both Standard troops and Spec-ops seem to be able to accessorize there weapons pretty well nowadays.Or at least more than previously seen.

Ah ok. I know they commisioned the pattern for the US Army. I also know that when they were testing it, and ACU, they chose ACU over it (which delayed Multicam till 2010?)
Aug 2, 2007 8:31am
you're right, my mistake. Multicam wasn't developed for the FFW program, Its just used in the program

Until we start using real guns, we'll never achieve true realism.
