AEG sniper rifle setup

Sep 11, 2007 5:39am
So currently, my AUG is not getting a whole lot of range as quite a few other rifles that I saw the last game at Nam field. It was firing at 385-390 fps (.2 g bbs) I was using .25, but have not noticed that much of a range loss between the two in the past. Since I already have my glock sidearm that seemed to be more effective than my aug at nam anywhere within 100 feet, Im considering converting my aug to an aex sniper. Andrew and (dunno other guys name yet) at aex sort of discouraged me from AEG sniper setups, but I really wanted an aug sniper...

Meh, once you get used to it, P90 mag changes are easy. Still not as fast as an AK or AR change, but not a huge change.
Check out my FS thread! Lots for sale!

p90's are nice with the exception of the pain in the ass mags. If you get one go with the TR version 'cause the red dot on the rd version sucks.

There's no way someone is gonna convince me to get an AK. Or an m4 or mp5. All too common. Friend uses P90 and hi-cap mag, it has excellent accuracy and quite good rof. Or I think the next gun I buy is going to be second Glock 18...

aeg's can't be true sniper rifles. dmr rifles yes, sniper rifles no. durability isn't really the problem. i have a 450 fps ak and it's never had a problem internally. the problem is that aegs just aren't consistent enough and don't have good enough range to be called sniper rifles...even when they're completely maxed out. shot to shot fps consistency just isn't gonna be very good on an aeg no matter what you do. besides that, the aeg hop system is just variable by nature and won't allow for good groupings at range. at most i would think that an aeg can engage at 200 feet and even then, it'll take their semi auto rapid succession shots to be able to hit things at that range. This is contrary to a properly upgraded spring or gas sniper rifle which can hit targets out to 250-275 feet reliably.
What's a signature?

So basically, i should give up on my aug cuz nobody knows why it isnt getting that much range. Maybe it was the black bb's, and i just couldnt see where they were landing all that well...

If you are going to try making a decent sniper rifle out of an AEG you are looking to spend more money on aftermarkets than if you just went out and bought a sniper rifle. Then again when using mom and dad's money i would experiment too...

You are losing FPS because you are using a PSG-1 barrel. Go back to your stock barrel. Stock Augs have great range, no reason to do all of these upgrades. You would have been fine with a spring and some metal bushings.
Sep 11, 2007 8:10pm
The PSG-1 specific barrels have a squared off shape at the hop-up area than non-PSG-1 barrels (picture the letter D as opposed to the letter O). Unless you are shooting a PSG gun don't use PSG barrels. You will lose close to 100fps just from the air pressure loss at the hop-up bucking because it won't be formed tight to the barrel. You can always get longer length barrels for your Aug than stock length.
I have always acted in self defense, occasionally pre-emptive self defense.
