Metal Piston

Sep 14, 2004 1:39am
Hey, heard some guys talking about systema metal pistons in stock gear boxes. I guess its not good for it, but for me I usually shoot on semi only, and wondering if using a metal piston is a good idea. I am also running a poly piston head in it, not sure if that makes a difference.... let me know.

Ver.3 box it's ok. Otherwise bad for high ROF, good for high sprung guns in semi or low ROF.

well I am running I high torque motor in it........ and the ROF is insane on it

my stock piston got stripped because the ROF was so high, I decided to take out the Jungletoy spring and stick in the stock spring......... Stripped the piston very quickly, Ill just order a polycarb piston when I order my aps-2 stuff from WGC

Ver. 2 box personally I wouldn't do it. You're much better off with the polycarb anyways. It's better to have shredded pieces of plastic in the box than shredded pieces of metal.

wont it break easier if you drill holes in it?

So i could drill holes in my piston like that and i'm guessing since its lighter.. it would slightly increase my rof?

possibly, but quite inconclusive.

It changes nothing for the gears. It's makes it easier on the mechbox.

I'm doing a custom grind/mill/drill job on my aluminum piston. It's nearly a skeleton now. When I finish it up at Glenn's, on his drill press, I'll weigh it, take pictures of it, and post everything up. I've taken a ridiculous amount of material off this piston. The face of the piston is drilled out, around the hole where the piston head mounts. I've also milled out the material between the rails. I ground the teeth down to half width teeth like you find on "infinite torque up gear" pistons, and I've drilled out that section as well. It's nearly just an aluminum cage now. Will update you all as I go.
